Known from the Maringa (Lulonga drainage) and Tshuapa (Ruki drainage) in the middle Congo River basin (Ref. 56367). Possibly also in Pool Malebo (one of the paratypes collected in the vicinty of Kinshasa without further details)(Ref. 56367). Ornamental fish exporters in Kinshasa claim that the species is regularly collected in a blackwater stream east of Kinshasa at Kinkolé (Ref. 56367). Type-locality of the holotype of Polypterus mokelembembe: 'Wamba, riv. Maringa' (Ref. 56367). |
